Semi-Truck Spirals Out of Control, Killing Two in Nebraska

A tragic two-vehicle crash that unfolded in August in Nebraska resulted in a devastating toll of two fatalities with an additional three individuals sustaining injuries, according to available information. The accident is being investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP).

At approximately 4:15 p.m. August 9, along Highway 6 in proximity to the Adams/Clay County line, a westbound semi-truck tragically failed to decelerate when encountering stationary traffic in the same lane. 

The semi-truck veered into the eastbound lanes, spiraling out of control and ultimately colliding with an eastbound Buick Enclave, according to available information. The car was occupied by an adult, identified as Nicole Pavelka, aged 30, and four children.

The accident took the lives of Nicole Pavelka and one of the children, an 8-year-old named Ryker Schlichtman. The aftermath of the collision saw an 11-year-old and a 10-year-old transported to the Children’s Hospital in Omaha, each experiencing grave injuries. Similarly, a fourth child, aged 9, was taken to Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, with injuries also designated as serious, according to available information.

The operator of the ill-fated semi-truck, Justin Zoerb, has been taken into custody due to an active arrest warrant originating from Hitchcock County. NSP is engaged in a comprehensive crash reconstruction, an essential component of the ongoing inquiry.
