North Carolina Tractor-Trailer Stop on I-85 with no Warning LIghts Causing Crash Injures Children

In Gaston County, North Carolina, the driver of a tractor-trailer is facing multiple charges in connection with a collision that resulted in injuries to a man and his two children, aged 11 and 13. The severe accident occurred at approximately 4 AM on Thursday, October 19, along southbound Interstate 85 near mile marker 27 in eastern Gaston County, according to available information.

According to officials, the driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 39-year-old Mohammed Saeed Ali, had come to a stop in the lane of travel on I-85 without activating his hazard lights.

Authorities stated that the tractor-trailer was struck by a Honda minivan traveling southbound on I-85. The minivan was being driven by a 49-year-old man who had his two young children in the vehicle.

The man and his children were trapped inside their van, which became wedged under the bed of the tractor-trailer following the crash. Emergency personnel with the Belmont Fire Department worked to remove the family from the minivan, according to available information.

The father and one of his children were taken to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries. The second child was initially taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Ali has been charged with impeding the flow of traffic, failure to display warning devices, and improper parking.
