Jackknifed Tanker Truck, Big Rigs in 18-Vehicle Colorado Crash

A big rig tanker carrying milk jackknifed on a Colorado freeway on December 7,  2023, causing more than 18 vehicles to crash. The I-70 in Colorado was temporarily closed due to the major collision involving multiple big rigs that leaked diesel fuel onto the roadway. According to the information provided, A tanker truck jackknifed. A second semitrailer collided with the tanker, causing a chain reaction of multiple vehicles crashing into the stopped trucks.

The hazardous situation developed from two wrecked semis with ruptured gas tanks leaking diesel fuel. The state patrol’s hazardous materials team was dispatched to address the issue. The affected stretch of road extended between Exit 72: West Parachute and Exit 62: De Beque.

The road conditions at the time of the accident were visibly icy, with significant snow accumulation on the highway surface.
