Impala Pinned Under FedEx Semi-Truck in Northwest Ohio

June 21, 2024 Firm News

On Wednesday, June 19th, at 1:37 p.m., a collision in Union Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, sent a driver to the hospital. Deputies from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Elm Sugar Road following reports of a FedEx semi-truck accident. Upon arrival, authorities found a Chevrolet Impala under a FedEx semi-truck.

Preliminary reports indicate that the FedEx semi-truck was traveling west on Elm Sugar Road while the Chevrolet Impala was heading south on Liberty Union Road. According to deputies, the FedEx driver failed to yield at the stop sign and collided with the Impala.

Authorities stated, “Unit One applied the brakes, causing skid marks on the roadway and then struck Unit Two on its right-side trailer in the middle of the intersection. Unit 2 had to be pulled out from under Unit One.” The impact caused the Impala to become lodged under the semi-truck.

Paramedics promptly transported the driver of the Impala to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The FedEx driver received a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign.

What to Do After a FedEx Semi-Truck Accident

In the unfortunate event of being injured in a collision with a FedEx truck or commercial tractor-trailer, it is crucial to have experienced legal representation to navigate the complexities of the law following your FedEx semi-truck accident.

Preserving evidence is needed immediately. Information like the FedEx Ground’s cell phone, electronic recordings, black box (electronic control module), all video and audio of the onboard cameras (VEDR), driver’s log of hours and inspections, and driver qualification file.

On top of that, scene photos and scene surveillance video and photos, witness contact information, and contact with law enforcement and first responders can provide vital evidence. In a wrongful death claim, immediate legal assistance is needed in understanding the law on who is entitled to bring a claim and for what, and where, as well as probate proceedings.
