September 20, 2023 Firm News

In late September, a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck occurred west of Baxter Springs, Kansas. Responding to the scene were the Baxter Springs Fire Department, Cherokee County Deputies, EMS personnel, and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Both vehicles were traveling eastbound, with the 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck ahead. The pickup began to slow down in preparation for a left turn, at which point the tractor-trailer moved into the left lane and collided with the pickup, according to available information.

The Kansas Highway Patrol deployed its Critical Highway Accident Response Team (CHART) to collect data and reconstruct the incident for further investigation. The driver of the 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer, identified as Petko Kirov, 50, from Glenview, Illinois, was traveling eastbound on Highway 166. He was following a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup.

The pickup truck was being driven by Jeffrey Lansaw, 54, from Galena, Kansas, who sustained serious injuries in the crash and was promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Tragically, a 58-year-old passenger in the pickup, who hailed from Quapaw, Oklahoma, did not survive the collision. At the scene, the coroner’s request led to the retrieval of his body by Derfelt Funeral Home, according to available information.
