Developer Attorney James Scherr proposes $17 million Hotel Project
In 2013, James Scherr, attorney turned developer in El Paso, proposed a new development that would ultimately become a DoubleTree Hilton Hotel. In this article, he announces the plan to build the $17 million, 15-story hotel. Scherr calls on the city to offset the funding with $3 million in city tax rebates. The public-private partnership that was Scherr’s brainchild grew from the desire to improve the community where he was born and raised. El Paso’s downtown had deteriorated, and Scherr was determined to change that. The hotel featured 200 rooms, a rooftop pool, a fitness center, and a restaurant. The location was the center of downtown El Paso.
Ultimately the project was a success. In addition to his work on the DoubleTree Hotel, Scherr has been involved in a number of other major projects in El Paso over the years. These include the development of luxury homes in the city’s upscale neighborhoods, as well as the construction of commercial properties that have helped to attract new businesses and jobs to the area. He is driven by a commitment to help El Paso prosper.
