Big Rig Crash Injures Four in Washington State

January 23, 2024 Firm News

On January 8, a head-on collision between a semi-truck and a passenger car on Blewett Pass left four individuals injured, according to Washington State Patrol officials.

The incident unfolded on U.S. Highway 97 around 1:45 p.m., triggered by a jackknifed semi truck that obstructed the southbound lanes. Washington State Patrol officials explained, “Another southbound semi attempted to pass the jackknifed truck, entering the oncoming lanes and colliding head-on with a passenger car.”

The responsibility for the crash rests with the semi driver attempting the pass, exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, officials said. The semi-driver engaged in an illegal pass in a non-passing lane.

All four occupants of the car sustained injuries and were subsequently transported to Confluence Health Hospital Central Campus in Wenatchee. The injured individuals were identified as 56-year-old Marnie G. Gonzalez and 58-year-old Roneo P. Gonzalez of Seattle, as well as 64-year-old Charlie C. Megia and Rhodora A. Megia of Tukwila.

The driver of the passing semi, 61-year-old Dorel Buse of Vancouver (WA), emerged unscathed from the collision. The aftermath of the incident led to the closure of the highway for several hours, allowing crews to clear the wreckage and investigators to conduct their examination of the scene.
